And yet strangely, I hadn’t. Why not? I had, after all, just spent 24 hours at our regional Children’s Hospital with my daughter for respiratory distress. You might expect that among the multitude of emotions I experienced, fear would be one of them.
Like her siblings, my daughter, Maeve, had been battling a virus all week. It felt like the same routine we had been stuck in since the school year began. But this time, however, while everyone else recovered, Maeve started to decline. I was monitoring her breathing, repeatedly visiting her paediatrician, and electing for extra testing. We all agreed - she was struggling, but for now, she was compensating well enough on her own, and we did not need to go to the ER.
